Dragon Copilot for Nurses
Dragon Copilot combines Nuance's ambient voice AI with generative AI to automate clinical documentation. The physician version captures conversations and generates notes. The nursing version needed to capture bedside interactions and output structured flowsheet entries instead. I helped finalize the design as a consultant and worked with the team to ship it. Launched Nov 2025.
Adapting for Nursing Workflows
Physicians dictate notes after a 15-minute visit. Nurses document continuously across a 12-hour shift. Vital signs, medication administration, assessments. The AI needed to listen to bedside conversations and map what was said to the right flowsheet fields, not generate a narrative summary.
Epic Rover Integration
Instead of a standalone app, we integrated directly into Epic Rover, the mobile app nurses already use at the bedside. Nurses don't have time to switch apps mid-shift. The review-and-approve flow had to feel native to Rover while giving nurses full control over what goes into the chart.
Human-in-the-Loop Review
Every AI-generated entry goes through a nurse review step before it touches the EHR. The challenge was making review fast enough to actually save time, not just shift the burden from typing to editing. Nurses needed to see what the AI captured, edit or reject entries, and batch-approve with confidence.
